About Us
Marlowe Flower Field is located on a 4000 sq foot lot on the edge of the Puget Sound. The flowers are grown mainly in the raised garden beds in a mixture of soil and compost. Every year the soil is amended with more compost and worm castings. Seeds are purchased with a cut flower garden in mind - including native, perennials and annuals. A watering system is used with the ability to schedule watering based on need of plants and the rain forecast. Neem oil is used for pest management. Never pesticides or insecticides. Flowers are immediately cut and kept in water with FloraLife added. Seeds are kept in a dry, dark area. Starters are kept under grow lights and watered regularly.
Practices
No pesticides or insecticides are ever use. Nor is synthetic fertilizer ever used. Marlowe Flower Field is just steps from the Puget Sound and so runoff is, of course, a major concern. Neem Oil is currently used for pest and insect control. Mulch and a watering system is used to help conserve water. There is a mix of native, perennial and annual plants. Marlowe Flower Fields is also a welcoming place for bees, butterflies and birds.
