Kat Murphy currently calls Port Townsend home and has worked the past three years as a commercial fisherman. She worked as crew long-lining for halibut and trolling for salmon in southeast Alaska, crabbing in Puget Sound, and trolling for tuna and salmon off the coasts of California and Oregon. Prior to commercial fishing she spent many years sailing throughout the Caribbean, the east coast of the US, and the Salish Sea as an experiential educator. Currently Kat is the owner/operator of the F/V Grace, a 38ft wooden power troller built in 1946 in Seattle. She and the Grace spend the summer months trolling for salmon throughout Southeast Alaska. Trolling consists of running high tensions wires off of hydraulic gurdies with hooks spaced throughout. Each fish is caught individually by hook and line and is cleaned, bled, and iced on-board. This process produces some of the highest quality fish on the market. Thank you for supporting small business and sustainable fisheries.
