About Us
Courter Country Farm is nestled on 20 private acres on the south end of Poulsbo, WA. Kevin, retired from the Navy and employed at Keyport, along with his wife Denise, registered nurse, work diligently to grow the freshest, healthiest produce possible. Visitors are welcome to come and explore where their food is grown and learn the techniques we incorporate to manage our land and protect our environment. We are grateful for the support we receive from our community.
At Courter Country Farm, we practice no til gardening, with permaculture techniques. We plant cover crops and use mulch to build soil and suppress weeds. Our chickens are fed from our garden daily and allowed to free range when our gardens are not in full production. Our animal manures are composted back into our soils. Our crop rotation helps to minimize disease and replenish our soils with nutrients. We test our soils and supplement them with micronutrients which contribute to both the health of our produce and our own health. By incorporating these practices, we avoid the use of commercial fertilizers, insecticides and herbicides.
Additionally, we have partnered with the Kitsap Conservation District and installed 2 rain gardens to capture run off from our three main buildings in an effort to help protect Barker Creek which flows through our property. We employ hugels as a means to manage tree stump waste and promote soil building. By mulching heavily and the use of drip tape, our water consumption is minimal.
