We use no synthetic fertilizers or pesticides. We are not certified organic.
We manage our urban lot with the possibilities of one day being certified organic.
We practice permaculture principles. Compost is made here using materials gathered on-site and locally. Our tomatoes were planted using organic heirloom seeds. (We never use GMO seeds/plants) Companion planting is practiced.
We endeavor to seek out vegetable varieties with the most nutritional value, i.e. two tomato varieties were chosen for their high tetra-cis-lycopene.

Practices
We have personally been lifelong recyclers, composters and re-users. Soil blocking is used to cut down on the use of plastics. Leaves and branches, etc. are chipped. This provides a great source of mulch and compostable material. We would not outdoor burn even if we lived outside the Urban Growth Area where outdoor burning is illegal. Our growing beds were sifted of rock down to three feet. Compost and chips were added to retain water. This allowed rain water to be absorbed instead of running off.
